ED drugs help to improve heart condition

Patients who are diagnosed with left ventricular hypertrophy can use PDE-5 medications to avoid cardiac remodeling. Viagra is among the recommended remedies along with other similar drugs. They can enhance the cardiac function in the patients who suffer from different diseases.

The double benefit of this study is evident. It is good not for sex only but for patients with LVH.

This conclusion was made after 24 studies were analyzed, in which 1622 persons participated. 954 of them took PDE-5 treatment in comparison with the rest 772 persons, who were on placebo treatment. You can find the detailed description of this study in BMC Medicine (edition of October, 19, 2014).

The ED medications supposedly served to enhance the condition of cardiac function. It was the first time when sildenafil was examined as an antianginal drug prior to marketing approval of the medication to treat ED and PAH (pulmonary arterial hypertension).

The cause of evaluation of sildenafil in men who suffer from heart failure or PAH comes from the fact that PDE-5 is the basic enzyme, which are in charge of cGMP catabolism that occur in vascular smooth muscles. Left ventricular systolic dysfunction of chronic character features deteriorated condition of nitric oxide vasolidation in pulmonary system as well as in skeletal-muscle circulatory system.

The analysis also comprised the studies that demonstrated the impact of PDE-5 inhibitors to men who suffered from heart failure, pulmonary arterial hypertension, diabetic cardiomyopathy. The biggest part of participants took sildenafil treatment while the rest received tadalafil treatment, which continued for a year.

Durable intake of PDE-5 inhibitors enhanced the cardiań condition. You can see it from 6 studies that revealed ejection fraction in 286 men who suffered from left heart disease. The patients who were treated with sildenafil had 3.56% rise in ejection fraction in comparison with placebo. Men with LVH had 4.38% rise in comparison with placebo group. The studied medications had not produced any impact upon the heart rate and the blood pressure did not change. The vascular resistance index was without alterations.

The widespread side effects of medical therapy are headache, gastric symptoms, nose bleeding, flushing and etc.

As the specialists noted PDE-5 inhibitors can be applied in the patients with cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure on an initial stage. Taking into account that the medicines were examined during treatment of men, but nothing was known about the effect of drugs upon women, more work needs to be conducted to determine the efficacy of medication for women. Also, durable study is necessary to check the development of cardiovascular problems on a long-term basis.

It is worth saying that in 2013 National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute initiated the RELAX study and the expected result was not achieved then. Patients with heart problems tested the efficacy of sildenafil and no positive signs were noticed in cardiac performance, ventricular remodeling, diastolic parameters, hospitalizations and others.
